Mission

Americans for Technology Leadership is a broad-based coalition of technology professionals, consumers and organizations dedicated to limiting government regulation of technology and fostering competitive market solutions to public policy issues affecting the technology industry. We believe that this approach will ensure that all Americans are able to take advantage of the benefits of the technologies that are shaping the new economy.

Statement of Principles
Americans for Technology Leadership is dedicated to preserving the United States global leadership in information technology by working to maintain the dynamic relationship between consumers and entrepreneurs that has thrived in a largely unregulated marketplace. Because of the creation of affordable and innovative technologies, American consumers, high-tech businesses and its workers are now driving 25 percent of the nation's new economy.

Lately, federal and state governments have shown increased interest in regulating the complex and fast-changing world of Americaís high-tech industry. This trend threatens the continued growth and success of the American high-tech economy. Most importantly, it ignores the driving force behind the success: the consumer, the high-tech worker, and high-tech entrepreneurs.

To prevent unnecessary regulation of the Information Age and preserve America's role as the preeminent leader in high technology, Americans for Technology Leadership supports the following public policy principles:

Marketplace Competition
Consumer choices, not government management of innovation, are the best marketplace regulators. New regulations and unnecessary lawsuits against technology companies will stifle innovation and result in consumers paying higher prices
.

Product Design and Innovation
Consumers, not government regulation, should decide which features and services are developed and included in high technology products. Rather than the government playing a role in designing technology products, programmers, engineers, and product developers should continue responding to consumer demand when developing new products or improving existing ones.

Industry Role in Tech Policy
The best technology policy decisions will be made when consumers and the tech sector work together, rather than by having the government issue new and unnecessary regulations. This relationship will insure that consumers interests are protected and that they are able to take advantage of new technology with more choices at lower prices.
